The Story Behind TechMate
The Inspiration
My grandparents were repeatedly scammed online. After years of being their go-to tech helper — and seeing how many other seniors faced the same struggles — I knew something had to change.
Community Presentations
Before TechMate existed, I visited senior living communities throughout Las Vegas, hosting presentations on technology and AI. The turnout and genuine impact were overwhelming.
Building the Curriculum
I had been explaining the latest tech headlines to seniors who were often left behind by the pace of change. That experience inspired me to build an AI curriculum designed specifically for them — plain language, no jargon, real examples.
TechMate Is Born
Seeing how much the presentations helped, I expanded the work into TechMate: a full AI-powered assistant that answers questions, detects scams, explains screenshots, and teaches AI — all designed around senior needs.
Congressional App Challenge
TechMate went on to win the 2025 Congressional App Challenge, a national competition recognizing the most impactful student-built apps in the country.
